Key things to remember: 1. DO NOT keep the cell log 8s connected permanently (even if switched off), each pin will draw different amps from the cells.  Some random sampling suggested a range of 2 mA to 790mA.  This doesn’t seem like much draw, but over time, it will eventually cause your pack to go out [...]

We ended up needing to pay about $250 for using more energy than we produces on our 3.6Kw solar system with the full years use of my EV. My netsavings from gas on the MR2 was around $1500 for 2012, so my net savings is still hugely positive. The results are captured in a graph [...]

I have been a cheap skate and trying to extend the life of the old tires (9 years) on the MR2 to get as much use out of them as possible. It recently started raining in California, and the car has hydroplaned a couple of times already, yet I stil haven’t taken the time to [...]

Manzanita Micro has fixed the charger and I’ve charged for a couple of nights without issue at about 40amps out. I get about 140ah on my 144V pack in less than 4 hours on 220V AC. It is nice to be back on the road again, especially with the recent gas price spike from 4.20 [...]

I lost a week of driving in the electric car in September because I sent the charger to Manzanita Micro for repairs. They replaced a couple of chips in the charger and now I can charge at a DC input of 40amps compared to only about 32amps prior. However, the amp oscillation problem described in [...]

Well, I’ve saved over $1400 in gas money driving my MR2 EV. The EV Club has been up since 7/15/2012 and has now over 50 members and 33 EVs. I’ve also donated my first month’s gas savings of $124.99 to a member, though the winner hasn’t claimed it yet. This past weekend, I shared my [...]

I heard back from a Mark Williams at the ARB. As it turns out, converted EVs are eligible for certification for consideration for the HOV stickers, however, Mark warned that it could be expensive for the individual to go through the process. I’ve also recently learned that a couple of folks have received their HOV [...]

Recently, the California Air Resources Board (ARB) have been turning down converted EVs for receiving the white Clean Air Vehicle stickers, including my MR2 electric that is charged mainly off solar panels.     These stickers allows 100% electric vehicles to use the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes during traffic hours and also reduces the toll [...]

I recently met my neighbor who owns a Tesla Roadster. He bought it in 2009 and has about 15,000 miles on it and loves it (as I do too!). I’ve not convinced him to let me drive it yet, but I’m working on it! We were just chatting on the topic of renewable energy and [...]
